Stayed 6 weeks in an apartment with 2 other women paired through KLF. Had the best experience. Most of the French teachers were lively, fun and kept you engaged while learning. The group you are paired with for classes matters a lot, don’t hesitate to change classes if you feel they’re hindering your learning. KLF was great at accommodating people’s request to change. They also offer weekly group activities and outings that give you opportunities to meet other people in the program and see new parts of the city. 100/10 would recommend to anyone looking to do something like this. My only con would be that it seems to be a popular program for teens and barely adults from many other countries so some levels feel like extended high school, more about the social hour instead of a learning experience. For anyone older than like 22, the upper levels are where you wanna be if you’re actually looking to learn something.
I studied French for a week twice with KLF. Last year I took an intensive class (german Bildungsurlaub) in Lyon and this year in Bordeaux. Everyone was so nice, friendly and helpful. Booking was easy, the documents needed for the approval of the class by my employer sent immediately. Teachers were great at both schools. Every week has a special motto. During my stays it was discussing art and history. Each lesson had a very good structure and was interesting. Classes were small, so you really get to speak often. Afternoon activities offered were fun too. Whether it is guided tours through the City, playing games in the park or visiting museum together, all well organized with lots of socializing.
The best school experience ever! Finally found a school that matched my learning style- games, small group, partnering, 1:1, field trips, and excellent teachers! Maïte Costes was an outstanding prof, the location was perfect, extra curricular activities engaging. I was nervous about being too old for the groups (retired school teacher), but there were students of all ages and a variety of motivations for taking French. I can't wait to come back and take more classes. Highly recommend!
I was at the junior for two weeks and stayed at the residence for one. The teacher was incredible but the rest was very bad. Organization was very poor, food was horrible, and the way the staff treated us was terrible. The director Alexia was very mean, she would knock at our dorms door at 11 pm shouting for something none of us were responsible for. She also said she had the right to shout at us because she was the director. She screamed at my mother, for a mistake SHE had made, they changed the schedules time and meet up place for a Saturday activity, and wouldn’t take responsibility for her actions of not letting us know. As for the food, if in those 2 weeks I had protein twice is too much. And they would only serve frozen pasta. I would only recommend to send your kid for the learning hours 8:45-12:15, that way they eat well at home and don’t have to deal with the staff members who think they are superior than you are. I really hope they change the menu and the staff that way it can be a better camp, plus take recommendations because when we told them several time several people about the treatment and the food they ignored it completely.
Though it was only 3 weeks, my KLF/Montpellier session helped me accelerate my intermediate French studies. The classes were engaging, our teacher was excellent, and the school welcomed learners of all ages and backgrounds. Montpellier is an interesting small city and the available small group tours allowed for exploring the region and meeting students from other language schools. My only regret is that I didn't sign up for a longer stay!!
Wonderful course! The teachers were wonderful and I really enjoyed the structure of the lessons. It was also balanced by the opportunity for social events to keep speaking French and meet other people in the course which was fantastic. The location was also brilliant both in the town but also Montpellier itself with the opportunity to visit other towns and attractions close by. Would return in a heartbeat!
My son was 14 when he attended the school and it was just brilliant. His confidence in speaking went from low to high, albeit grammatically maybe not 100% correct, but just having the confidence that the school helped install in him was great. The hostess he stayed with only spoke French, another bonus and I spoke to her and she was strict, but warm and Max, my son felt totally safe in her home and enjoyed the wee chats they had after school. I am hoping to put my younger son in the same school next year when he too is 14 and am sure he will be as well looked after as my first born was.
Great teachers, excellent course content, a very positive experience
