LUMLEY CASTLE

We recently stayed at Lumley Castle and overall it was a very memorable experience. The castle itself is beautiful and full of character, with amazing historic architecture and a unique atmosphere you do not get in a normal hotel. The surroundings are peaceful and the grounds are very well kept. Staff were friendly and helpful during check in and throughout the stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and sleeping inside a real castle felt special. The restaurant and breakfast experience were also enjoyable, with good food and a nice setting. However, there were a few small downsides. Because it is an old historic building, some parts of the hotel feel slightly dated and the floors can be noisy in places. The room lighting was a bit dim and phone signal inside the castle was not always great. Some areas could benefit from minor modern updates while still keeping the historic charm. Overall, Lumley Castle is a great place for a relaxing stay or special occasion. The atmosphere and experience make it stand out, and I would happily visit again 👍

Was a romantic get away, found that the drinks are expensive inside the hotel. we never ate at the hotel, as there is a couple of nice pubs close by. the staff were friendly, THe place is a bit of a maze but cool. they do run daily tours but its best if you book up in advance as when we tried to do day of the tour no availability. it is run via a 3rd party not the hotel itself.

We stayed here for radio 1 big weekend. The castle made the weekend! It was everything we hoped it would be and more. |Firstly, every staff we had an interaction with was lovely and so helpful. |The food in the restaurant was incredible, we had the chateaubriand and it was worth the money. We had cocktails too and they were some of the best I’ve had, no cheap fruit juice in them! |Our room was one of the state rooms in the main part of the castle and it was beautiful. It was massive, had so much character and the roll top bath was a nice touch. |The only thing we didn’t quite understand is that there seemed to be a lot of Greek/roman statues and it would have made more sense to have suits of armour etc, but that’s me being very picky! Another recommendation would be to have smart TVs in the bedrooms, but there is so much to see in the castle it’s unlikely you would want to watch TV. |Our two nights here were perfect. If you want modern and clinical then this hotel isn’t for you, but if you’re happy to accept that a building with so much character and history may have a couple of cobwebs in the high ceilings then I would definitely recommend you visit Lumley. We enjoyed every second of our stay here and are already thinking about when we can come back. |We stayed here because the location was perfect for us, we hadn’t read any history and we didn’t know that it may be haunted, but I will just mention that there was a couple of strange occurrences whilst we were there, the bed was shaking intermittently and the TV kept turning itself on throughout the night. It just added to the atmosphere of the place and we loved it!

What a great stay. Gorgeous weather meant we could sit out and relax in the court yard with drinks.. We actually stayed in a Court yard room but still felt very much part of the castle. . Room was charming and nipping clean and had a lovely walk in shower. Staff were all lovely, courteous and nothing was any trouble. Such a great place with lots of history and charm. They also have themed nights here for an additionsl fee. . Breakfast was of high quality and offered continental and a selection of hot cooked meals, all locally sourced produce . Overall, we had a fabulous time.

A truly memorable stay. The castle itself is beautiful and full of character, making the whole experience feel very special. The atmosphere is unique – it really feels like stepping back in time. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection, and the food in the bar was surprisingly good as well. Everything was well presented and very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Would definitely recommend for a unique and relaxing getaway.

A great week at Lumley Castle. Great location with lots to do in the area. |The staff were very friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We stayed in the Earl of Somerset room which was off the main drag, quiet and very atmospheric. Dean and David on reception were both very helpful and the tour of the castle with Phil very informative and fun. We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and in the bar another 2 nights. The food, along with the breakfasts, was delicious. We’re planning to visit again later in the year to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary with our family and are already looking forward to it!

We stayed in Room 49 (a complimentary upgrade), which has a hidden feature... which was a bit of fun. Comfy grand four poster. Some of the features were just a little tired and no one had cleaned behind the sink (as there was intentional gap) for a while but generally very clean. Reception service great, restaurant service okay, food - a little overpriced for portion size, taste was okay. Location is a good compromise as the Castle is away from noisy roads, bot too far into the country, but makes a slightly longer walk into town. The Castle itself has many old features and great to walk around - lovely Courtyard and interesting features to photograph. Great compliment to Alnwick Castel which we visited during the day time and not too far to Castle Howard which we visited the next.

We were very pleased to have chosen this excellent place to spend three nights. The location was perfect and next to the local golf course. |Our hotel room no. 14 located in the courtyard was large, comfortable and the facilities were first class. |The Knights restaurant we used for breakfast and we had two lovely evening meals. |All the staff were friendly and helpful. |Five stars all round from us and we will return.
