We are two older Americans (60s) who have moved to France and have been busy remodeling and settling in. When it came time to start dedicating time to learn French, we chose to dip our toes in the water with Alliance Francaise. We are both beginner - beginner levels. We took an oral test to confirm the A1 (A0) entry level and were told that we could join a class in progress or wait until a new class started. We decided to start right away since we were committing to 2 evening classes a week for 1 month. This was to observe the teaching methods and see if it would be a good fit. We knew we could only do one month since we had some previously arranged travel in the upcoming months. The first class, as we suspected was a wake-up call. The class was 3-4 months into it and was conducted entirely in French. The teacher, Lucy De Ville, welcomed us as did the other 10 students. The age range was diverse as was the nationalities. Ms. De Ville was patient and very helpful. She offered to give us extra work in addition to the nightly homework, to help us catch-up. As the class went on, it was not uncommon for student to come and go and with various degrees of language understanding. I was impressed by Ms. De Ville's ability to manage such different levels in the same class and to make meaningful progress every day without leaving anyone behind. We will continue to learn over the next few months during our travel, and when we return to Alliance Francaise, I hope we will lucky enough to have Ms. De Ville as our teacher again. I would highly recommend Alliance Francaise in Nice.
The French Classes offered at Alliance Française - Nice are of highest quality in terms of academics and actual teaching by the professors. Prior to attending the intense week long French course a placement test was conducted. As a result I got placed in a challenging and yet appropriate class for my skills. My professor, Babacar Diallo, ensured engaged and highly skilled teaching. I can highly recommend taking lessons at AF-Nice, and I will definitely come back for an extended period of time.
What a truly wonderful, immersive, learning environment! And when getting around Nice I found the community very supportive in my practicing French; yes once in awhile in the surrounding restaurants and stores you'll have a server who will answer you in English, but I feel its because they want you to feel welcome and comfortable and it's not to rush your service. 10/10 teachers (I had 2 in 2 different levels), and great supportive front office. Their cafe is fantastic too!
My wife and I had a very good experience at Alliance Français in Nice. Our focus was on conversation and we ended up doing a 2-person class with Sonia. She was great. We practiced common everyday scenarios and did some role play. She was very patient, helpful and had a good sense of humour. We thought we made good progress during the course.
An exceptional experience! I am a American ex-pat who recently moved to Nice, France. I spent 5 months taking French language classes at AF for 3 hours each morning with teacher Sarah Albert. The high quality of teaching allowed me to progress from level A2.2 to B1.2 and I am now ready to pass the B1 DELF test. Sarah is an enthusiastic, positive, humorous, teacher with high energy and very engaging. Her pacing is fantastic. She does many different interactive exercises and games in a single morning to keep us engaged. She has a way of explaining grammar that is succinct, yet thorough and easy to comprehend. Honestly, this was the best money I've ever spent! My confidence in speaking has soared. Before these 5 months I was shy with a bit of trepidation when the need arose to speak with a native French speaker. Now I look forward to those conversations in person as well as on the telephone.
During my two-week work vacation, I registered at AF to learn French. Although I was placed in the A1.2 level, I had mostly learned on my own and was essentially a beginner. I was fortunate to be placed in Manon’s class. Despite the short time, I truly felt her warm and kind personality. She taught with clarity and patience, making the lessons easy to follow even for someone with a beginner level like mine. The registration process was also very smooth—staff responded to emails promptly and helpfully. Thank you for making this such an unforgettable experience.
I need to level up my French language skills and live about an hour away via train. I only booked a one week immersive to test the waters and booked a dorm room so as not worry about getting to class on time and the price was good. My teacher Alicia was incredible. My brain was mush day 1 but day 2 started functioning again and she was so encouraging and helpful with a great sense of humor. I'll be back soon for another go! I highly recommend them and their methods of immersion.
What a great experience.! I was nervous about learning such a difficult language but the teacher, Mirrelle, was incredibly patient, very comprehensive and was willing to address any question posed to her. She rested information as many times as was needed and was diligent with pronunciation. I thoroughly enjoyed the two week experience while we travelled through and around the Mediterranean coast. We met other lovely students and the barista in the cafe memorised my order and had it made by the time I got to the cashier! Great experience!
