This huge out of place statue of which the Marseille people are not a fan of, certainly does bring a smile to ones face. The artist wanted to relay a symbolic gesture of hope and hapiness to all and he succeeded. However, in all honesty, I would have definitely placed it elsewhere.

This 5-meter-tall pop art teddy bear sculpture by Jayet was installed in 2020 as a tribute to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the Roman god Janus, its two faces symbolize the past and the future. The bright orange color conveys a message of hope. Originally a temporary exhibit, it remains partially on display. Its surreal contrast with the nearby La Major Cathedral, the MUCEM, and the sea makes it a striking visual landmark.

The only downside is that the artist’s signature is placed prominently across the front of the bear, and it feels a bit distracting from the overall look of the piece. Aside from that, it’s a memorable and charming spot to check out while exploring the city.
