A must for book and architecture lovers alike 📚 All you need is a temporary card (I got mine for 12€) which you can renew every month if you’re in town for a short period of time. Longer stays justify annual memberships of course. Extra points for the cool temperature which is lifesaving in the extreme heat 🥵

A histrorical building that you should visit if you are in Strasbourg. It is second largest library in France. Built in 18th century and located in Republic area. No fee required to enter the building but you need access cards to enter the library. A foreigner can access to exposition area at €6 for a guided tour.

This is the second library building after the first one got destroyed by Prussian forces in 1872. It contrainedmany priceless manuscripts, such as the Hortus Deliciarum had been destroyed and could never be replaced. The current building which is a work of architects August Hartel and Skjold Neckelmann, was opened in 1895. It has very ornate Greek statues and figures. It became the regional library for the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine, as, according to German tradition, every region should have at least one library Currently, the library is the second largest library of France. The collections grew quickly, thanks principally to donations from all across Europe and the United States. It is an amazing building that is worth a visit.

Was able to get a temporary card as a visitor for a month, allowing for facility and wifi use etc. Two of the ladies weren´t very friendly, at all, BUT the younger gentleman working there was SO. VERY. KIND. and patient, going out of his way to help me get set up and make sure I had everything I needed, especially after the bit rough start. It was so appreciated and really turned the entire experience around. He gets FIVE stars... the place gets 4 ;) I only wish they had a few more memoirs/biographies in English and that the books were a bit easier to find. I found the way they were mixed in together/sorted a wee bit confusing. But again, a great resource to be able to access even when a visitor. It was 12 euros for the month, with possibility for extension, which I found very fair. THANK YOU!

A Disheartening Experience at the National University Library of Strasbourg I recently visited the National University Library of Strasbourg and encountered a disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. While I was quietly praying in a secluded area of the library, well away from others, a security officer approached me. To my surprise, he took pictures of my ID card and informed me that the space was for everyone. I completely understand and respect that libraries aim to be inclusive environments; however, I believe this should also extend to allowing individuals to pray quietly without disruption. If my actions were deemed inappropriate, I would have appreciated a gentle reminder rather than an abrupt confrontation. I inquired if there was a designated space for prayer, and unfortunately, the security officer replied that there was not. This experience left me feeling unwelcome in a place that should be accessible and respectful of diverse practices. I hope the library administration considers implementing designated areas for quiet reflection and prayer, fostering an environment that truly embraces all members of the community.

Wonderful place, full of history and in the same time very well equipped with the latest technologies. There is a lot of diversity in terms of collections and document types. The place is at high demand but offers the possibility to check for availability or to make a reservation. There is also the possibility to take a break and have a coffee from the vending machines for 0.60 cent 😉 - acceptable taste.

Great library that work even during the weekends until 22:00 P.M, with experienced staff, highly recommended for every one who what to do research and studying👌🏆
