Avis
Uma grande e bonita marina ao pé do centro da cidade
Le vif de Marseille. Palpitant et on manque pas d'activités.
They spent all the money in Paris, or so it seemed. A shame as we spent quite a bit getting to Marseille. A very disappointing Olympic sailing set-up in every respect. Temperatures of 37 degrees C, thousands of spectators and shade for only a couple of hundred. No catering that we could find. Paltry stands not selling any water. Information booth staffed by people who didn’t know about the programme and no access to information available via the major broadcasters. Only two big screens but not covered with shades to enhance visibility. The sailing and kitesurfing were cancelled due to lack of wind, but no coverage of the other Olympic events. Opportunities missed all over the place within and without the compound. There were grandstands on the marina jetty. Nor on the Corniche. All the courses set so far out to sea so you could see little or nothing. There could have been a leg with a couple of buoys closer to shore. It’s the TV audience that gets priority, but for competitors and paying customers proximity to the action boosts everyone. Of course the hosts had another huge dose of very bad weather luck. The wind didn’t blow all Olympic sailing/kitesurfing week, so nearly all the races had to be cancelled. Ironic since the week before it had almost been too windy… I really do hope the authorities learn these lessons from Marseille where the money allocated went awry somehow. The good news was that Brit Eleanor Aldridge won the first Olympic gold medal in women's kitesurfing on August 8, 2024. Aldridge’s victory was attributed to her strategic decision to switch to a smaller kite during the final races as she realised that the wind was finally getting up after a flat calm week. Her smaller sail allowed her to maintain greater speed and maneuverability in challenging wind conditions.
Very good atmosphere. Good welcoming
Fantastic sailing marina. Olympics were incredible.
