Amazing experience from start to finish. Celine and Thomas were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The whole procedure took only a short time, quick and smooth. Celine even gave us a beautiful map and showed us places worth visiting, and we ended up taking the map home with us after the trip as a memory. The car itself was excellent. It is brand new, spotless, smooth to drive, comfortable, and very fuel efficient. We genuinely enjoyed every moment with it, and it was honestly sad to say goodbye at the end of the trip.
This was not clear so I wanted to share how to return your rental car after hours. You’ll need to first park the car on the 5th floor of the parking garage, Gare Thiers. We took a parking ticket and I left it on the dashboard of the car as proof of time of return. There are parking spots designated for Avis car rentals so we dropped it there. Then we returned the key near the offices of the rental companies on the main floor, as you walk towards the train station. They have secure return boxes labelled with the rental company. OF NOTE: This process is not outlined clearly online and had me anxious about making my 6am train to Paris in time. But it all worked out fine, with some directions from a helpful security guard.
I had a highly frustrating and deceptive experience at this Avis/Budget location (Nice Train Station). The agent at the desk did not explain the rental terms or costs in person, simply stating that all details had been sent to my email. However, the system is designed like a trap: the email contains a link to "view the details," but **the moment you click that link, the system automatically signs and accepts the agreement.** Because of this, they sneaked in expensive add-ons that I never wanted and never verbalized: * **Unwanted Add-ons:** They added an unauthorized damage waiver and windshield protection. * **Hidden EV Charging Fees:** I was hit with a extra charge for returning my electric vehicle with under 70% battery. Nobody at the desk mentioned this policy. Had they told me, I easily would have charged it before returning, just like a standard tank of gas. Overall, this felt like a deliberate scam to inflate the bill without the customer's explicit, informed consent.
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to kindly request the return of my rental deposit for the vehicle I rented, GV-579-RC, from 27/10/2024 to 27/10/2024. The vehicle was returned in good condition, meeting all requirements in our rental agreement. Additionally, I have photos and recorded evidence to verify the vehicle’s condition at the time of return. I expect the deposit to be returned promptly, as withholding it without valid cause is unacceptable. Please inform me if any further actions are required on my end to expedite this process. OK, I’m sure others who’ve posted reviews here have their valid complaints. But I’ve rented here many times and have never had anything but good experiences. I always reserve via the Avis app. Every time I arrive, it takes mere moments to finalize the transaction and get the car key. Returns have been simple as well (with the possible exception of trying to guide the car into the very narrow parking stalls in the garage, but that’s life in France).
These guys are the worst. I booked through American Express travel. It was a prepaid booking. They charged me again because even though I returned the car in time in the evening, and their system, they are showing as if I returned the car next day in the morning. Now they have charged me extra for that time as much as for the full four day rental. I have shared copies of videos times stamped. It is just such a hassle to deal with these guys. They are the worst. You do not expect something like this from Avis.
The Avis systems don't seem to talk. You book online and then get asked to re-input everything as if you've never booked online. This booth was highly understaffed for the amount of people waiting. Whilst I was avis preferred I didn't take advantage as I felt bad for the single staff member who was doing his best.
